Excess funds on the local front amounted to K249.1 billion at the close of the money market activities on Monday. Volume of funds traded on interbank amounted to K96.6 billion at an average rate of 11.7 percent.

Dollar/kwacha continued to trade within tight bands following Tuesday’s exchanges. The local unit rallied at the start of trading with the pair buying and selling at 5,160 and 5,180 respectively as compared to Monday’s closing rates of 5,200 and 5220 respectively. The rally persisted in the morning sessions with the pair trading at intraday lows of 5,130 and 5,150 on the bid and offer sides respectively after the midmorning session.
